Getting over my cold. Still stuffy and what-have-you but I am getting over my cold. Went to a long meeting today, lunch, and a doctors appointment. Docbook hell. I just can’t find the right combination, and believe me when I tell you that I have tried many.
XXE, Vex, Docbook-tools, Emacs, Vi, Ede is the latest and it looks pretty promising. There is so much information to get my head around and it is a lot of work to use utilities that will generate documents that are somewhat portable and future-proof.
If you don’t know odt file are zip archives of xml files. See for yourself, unzip one. If you don’t have one try this one digger.odt. God why do I put myself through this shit…Anyway, I have learned far more than I was intending about docbook, SGML, and XSL. “Learned isn’t the right word, but it is the first one that comes to mind.”
The whole docbook saga began because I wanted the documentation for the group to be the same across the board. I am the only person who writes documentation for the group so I guess I just wanted to learn about docbook ;). Seriously, I wanted to take the time to understand the system so that I could continue to use it as the way I create all of my documentation. Sure, this will help the company I work for now but it will also help me as it is quite clear docbook and xml are here to stay.
I hope to spend the next few days actually learning docbook and the tags associated with it and perhaps create my first document which will document an application we use at work to manage the webfarm websites(hahaah that sounds so serious, there are three boxes). I am lame.
Went to the pediatrist today and he told me there is really nothing that can be done about my foot so they will be cutting it off. I am OK with this because they will be replacing it with a hand (aeon flux). Whatever. He said something about an insert, but on a positive note he said it would hurt me before I hurt it (you can tell he doesn’t know me 🙂 Wait! Isn’t it and me the same thing? Huh. Harvard my ass…
Please allow me to do some metaphysical push-ups. Or press-ups as Joey England likes to call em.
I am suppose to be sleeping…
