Well chalk it up as one for the good guys. I upgraded to Comcast business service today and it is definitely better. I don’t want to jinx myself or speak too soon but the service is definitely faster. No bandwidth limiting during peak hours and I was able to stream some stuff from Netflix to my PS3 without any problems.
Oddly enough business class service lands you on an internal 10 network (/24). I haven’t dug much further than that but http://www.whatismyip.com was able to tell me what I am NAT’ing to. Even better is the fact that the NAT doesn’t mess up Juniper client which is needed for me to get into work. Using the VPN is so sweet now. It is honestly like I am at my desk it is that fast.
All in all I don’t think the residential service is bad, but if you are looking for continued sustained rates like streaming or simply just a connection that isn’t throttled business seems like the way to go. I am paying 89.95/month for 16Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up. Using a speakeasy server in NY I have gotten >16 and >2 for all tests so far. Anyway about the price I figured having a rock solid internet connection was way more important than having cable service. Hell I never really use the set top box anyway.
Oh the times the are a changing and with that I’ll send my cable box away with them…
Time for bed work in the morning…feeling much better…feels like this cold is finally passing.
